Former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, met with federal lawmakers as he continues his push to actualise his presidential ambition in 2023.
9news Nigeria reports that Tinubu during the meeting at the National Assembly, Abuja, appealed to the lawmakers to back his ambition to win election into the highest political office in the land. .
Speaking with the APC Senate caucus, Tinubu disclosed that the purpose of the meeting was for him to seek advice, collaboration, and support from the lawmakers for his presidential ambition.
The former Lagos governor explained that he could not do it alone, so, he needed the support of the National Assembly members for him to actualise his dream of becoming the next Nigerian leader.
He stated further that having publicly announced his ambition and notified President Muhammadu Buhari of the same, he also needed the support of the lawmakers to get the party’s nomination so he could succeed Mr Buhari.
While marketing himself to the lawmakers during the meeting, the former Lagos State governor, announced that his ambition to succeed Buhari was not for power.
“This (presidential ambition) is not about gaining power. It is about securing good government for the nation,” Tinubu told the senators.
“I seek your partnership in my quest to become the Presidential Candidate of our party and to win the general elections in February 2023 for all APC candidates.
“This is not about gaining power. It is about securing good government for the nation.
“Together, the executive and legislative branches of this democratic tree must strive to cultivate and bring forth good fruit for the welfare of the people.”
Senate President Ahmed Lawan in his response to Mr Tinubu said the APC Senate caucus is a major pillar of the party which has shown loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the party, so, they are with him in the course of fighting for the unity of the party.
