Police operatives in Ogun state have arrested two medical practitioners, a doctor and a nurse, after a 35-year-old woman died due to complications of abortion.

The suspects, Dr. Olawale Raji and Nurse Olusegun Funmilayo, currently being detained at the Onipanu Police Division, have been ordered to be transfered to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of Ogun State Police Command by Commissioner of Police, Iliyasu Ahmed.

Their arrests was sequel to a complaint lodged by one Bose Kareem of House No. 6, Ire-akari Street, Atan-Otta, to the effect that her late sister, Aminat Iyanda Atinsola, had contracted the services of the two medical practitioners for termination of her two-month old pregnancy.

Mrs. Kazeem, according to a press release made available to Crimepuzzle by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that the two suspects, who co-operate a private hospital in the neighborhood, carried out the unlawful act right inside the house of the deceased.

“Trouble started when the deceased started having complications, shortly after the abortion and was being rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Abeokuta, only to lose the battle for survival on the way”, the statement added .

Oyeyemi said, “On receiving the report, the DPO Onipanu Division, SP Sangobiyi Johnson, led his team of detectives to the scene where the two medical practitioners were promptly arrested, adding that the corpse of the 35yr old deceased had been deposited at the General Hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
