A group of some Fulani Herdsmen has invaded Itigidi, the hometown of the former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke and the headquarters of Abi Local Government Area, and allegedly killing an All Progressives Congress, APC Councillorship aspirant on Monday.
9News Nigeria gathered from a resident of the invaded community who pleaded anonymity, that the Fulani herdsmen accused Itigidi community of killing one of their cow as some monarchs were invited by the police.
“The Fulani Herdsmen accused the people of killing their cow. And some of the chiefs and youth leaders were invited by policemen at Ugep to be interrogated.
“This singular act irked the angry and furious youths who demanded that their chiefs be interrogated in Itigidi Divisional Police Headquarters”.
The source further said, “the town was thrown into chaos following the dead of a mortician and an APC Councillorship aspirant, MRI Isong Nkanu Egbe aka Dr Isong No Joke”.
As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the police spokesperson, ASP Irene Ugbo proves abortive as there are still sounds of gun shots in the community and can’t tell if it is from Mobile Police (MOPOL) deployed to calm the situation or from the angry youths.
