Vigilant groups are charged to mobilize proactive actions to check crime in respective villages, communities, streets, neighborhoods, political wards and Local Government Areas in Imo State.
This measure is called to help the conventional security agencies in the state to improve on intelligence gathering targetted at combating insecurity, crime and busting criminal hide outs in the state.
Since the President Generals, Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders and Ward Councillors are resident at respect villages, joint effort of the Police, DSS, Civil Guards, Hunters Guards, with the Vigilant Groups across villages will definitely help to check unscrupulous acts by hoodlums and criminals.
Speaking with 9News Nigeria, government officials who spoke behind the camera, condemned high rise of insecurity in the state after several measures were put in place government. Government has therefore charged every Imo community to rise and set up reliable, trained and proactive vigilante security groups in Imo.
Speaking further, Governor Hope Uzodinma was commended for his unrelenting efforts in mobilizing security in Imo state while condemning the recent murderous termination of a pregnant woman and unborn child at Imo Airport Owerri.
Recall that Imo House of Assembly IMHA at a plenary on 24th October, 2024, moved a heart touching motion to condemn the gruesome murder of a pregnant woman identified as Mrs Chinwendu Amadi from Awogu-Logara in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area by unknown assailant at Imo Airport.
The motion was moved by the House member representing Ngor Okpala state Constituency in IMHA acknowledging and commending the dedicated efforts of the Police, Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Air force and other security agencies in the state for their bravery and commitment to maintaining law and order and safeguarding citizens and infrastructure in the face of such brazen atrocity.
The Honourable House further requested security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and urged the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to construct perimeter fence within its facilities to enhance security and prevent unauthorized access.
Village, community and neighborhood vigilant groups were charged to be very active on security intelligence gathering to check further obnoxious acts, crime, ritual killings, cultism, stealing, wanton destruction of public facilities, peddling and smoking of hard drugs, gangsterism, illegalities, indecent lifestyles and disturbances by criminals in Imo state.
It is a known fact that Christmas and New year festivities are fast approaching and security personnel are expected to be at 24/7 alert to be ready to fight and combat crime across all villages in Imo state with the joint efforts of the Police command.
Government has therefore approved thorough security coverage in Imo communities through a collaborative effort of the PGs, Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders and Ward Councillors with the help of conventional security agencies in an organized, recognized and approved manner targetted at encouraging safety and security and fighting criminality in the state.
Vigilante Security have to be charged with the responsibility of providing complete residential, commercial, street and industrial alarm services. And with the combined effort of the police, DSS, Army, Air force, Navy, the state will be will secured and its citizens and residents will enjoy a safe environment , mostly at the upcoming festive seasons.
