A leading socio-cultural group in Imo state Nigeria under the aegis of Olu Owerri West has elected their newest Mayor, Comrade Shanka Chinedu Ejiogu to pillot the ship of administration.
Olu Owerri West is not a Political platform but a Socio- Cultural group saddled with the responsibility of uniting the people of the area to front a common course. The group is also prepared to revive the heritage and cultural institutions in Owerri West to showcasing them as the best in the South East zone.
The election took place at Obinze area in Owerri West local government area of the state and featured alot of Olu Owerri stakeholders and members across the ten wards that made up the Owerri West local government Council.
Meanwhile the swearing-in took place alongside the group’s end of year party and award presentation at Links Hotel, FUTO road Obinze as reported by 9News Nigeria.
Speaking with 9News Nigeria correspodent in Owerri, Mayor Shanka Ejiogu stated that his leadership will bring more progress in the group and improve the land through rural developments.
He told Olu Owerri West members his readiness to serve as the Mayor of the group representing Owerri West and challenged them to institute a vote of no confidence on him in three months if found wanting his call of duties.
Olu Owerri West comprises all Sons and Daughters of Owerri west both home and diaspora and membership is based on screening and approval by the group.

Certificates of return were splashed on the elected officials while charging them to bring new developments in the group and improve the land at large. The were charged with enormous responsibility to better the area and the state at large. The Olu Owerri has membership across the grassroots.
Recall that the Newly elected Mayor Shanka Chinedu Ejiogu is a present leader in the revolutionary Labour Party LP who’s Presidential candidate remains Mr Peter.
However Mayor Shanka defected from APC party and joined the Labour Pary LP and till date he has remained active as a party man, a community leader and father of many children and youths of the area.
Alot of dignitaries across Political divides, SOLAD Owerri West, Hon. Victor Osuigwe, Dr Fidel Onyeneke, Lady Clarice Azuatalam amongst numerous Community leaders, stakeholders and traditional rulers graced the Olu Owerri West Inauguration and swearing-in that took place in Obinze Owerri West Imo State Nigeria.
