Report reaching us now has it that the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Social activist Omoyele Sowore has been shot by an officer of the Nigerian police.
According to a report released by Sowore’s aid and made available to 9News Nigeria, Abuja correspondent, the Social Activist who is also a strong Buhari Government critic was shot in Abuja by a yet to be identified police officer.
It was gathered that Sowore was shot at by the police at the Unity Fountain in Abuja while he was trying to gain entrance into the place.
Sowore’s #RevolutionNow and #BuhariMustGo protesting crowd had converged at the Fountain at 8:30 am Monday morning and were trying to enter the public facility, but the police allegedly denied them entry into the facility.
A source who spoke to 9News Nigeria said that Sowore was making an approach in order to speak with some of the police officers to allow them entrance when an officer fired a live bullet at the crowd.
Another source who claimed anonymity told 9News Nigeria reporter that a female police officer whose identity was given as Hyelhira Altine Daniel was the person that fired the shot that wounded Sowore. The source also gave the phone number of the police officer for further confirmation.
As of the time of this report, the FCT Abuja Command of the Nigerian Police has not issued any official statement regarding the shooting.
