AKURE (9News Nigeria) – Breaking News reaching 9News Nigeria 2 hours ago has it that the Ondo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is currently on fire.

According to report, fire break out at the ICT section of the INEC building around 8:45 pm on Thursday thereby destroying IT gadgets and other INEC equipment including card readers.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed to reporters, and as at time of reporting this incident, the fire has continued to burn without any control in sight. Members of the state’s fire services were not yet at sight as well.

The Ondo State fire service is less than 500 meters from the commission.

9News Nigeria has learnt that over 5000 card readers in the ICT section were being destroyed in the inferno.

The INEC commission is situated in Alagbaka area of Akure, the state capital.

There are suspicions of foul play regarding the cause of the inferno considering that governorship election in the state is scheduled for October 10, 2020.
