President Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Usman Alkali Baba as the new acting Inspector General of Police (IGP)
9News Nigeria learnt that the appointment was to take immediate effect sequel to the security lapses in the country.
DIG Usman Alkali Baba, who was just recently promoted in December as Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).
The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi disclosed this during a Press Briefing at the State House Abuja on Tuesday.
Recall that President Buhari had on February 4, 2021, extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for three months.
However, Usman Baba will be taking over from Mohammed Adamu as soon as his appointment is approved during the Council of State meeting expected to be convened soon.
Adamu has only spent about two months out of the three-month extension.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian President Buhari was in London for medical check up and was said to have moved ahead to Saudi Arabia for undisclosed official visit.
9News Nigeria had reported on Tuesday that unconfirmed news revealed that President Buhari has left London on his way to Saudi Arabia as #BuhariMustGo Protest in London became more intense.
