President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on food security in Nigeria.
This was made known by his spokesman Dele Alake during a briefing with journalists on Thursday.
Alake said the President is not unmindful of the rising cost of food and its effect on the pocket of citizens.
He noted that President Tinubu has directed that all matters about food and water availability and affordability, as essential livelihood items be included within the purview of the National Security Council.
The directive was said to be in line with the Tinubu administration’s position on ensuring that the most vulnerable are supported.
