The bill presented by the Deputy speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt Hon Ben Kalu has be termed as a setback to the economical hub in Nigeria.

Speaking with 9News hours after the motion was presented before the floor of the House, some Federal House staff have condemned such motion having read through the prayer of the deputy Speaker.

There was no permanent remedy contained in the motion to reducing the hardship effect of subsidy removal that has affected every Nigerian directly or indirectly even the Rep members and Senators of the Federal Republic.

The reduction of members salaries for the period of six months is a mere charade to an effective economic plan and policy expected of the federal lawmakers.

Thursday afternoon, the Federal House of Representatives Abuja Nigeria debated the motion to approve six months half salary deduction from their monthly entitlements to help bring down the excruciating economic situation ravaging the people of Nigeria at this present time.

Our correspondent reports that the ravaging economical turnaround has affected the All progressive Congress APC led renewed hope administration led by His Excellency President Tinubu.

It is true that Members of the House of Representatives have unanimously decided to reduce their salaries by half for a period of six months.

It is as a demonstration of solidarity and shared sacrifice with the Nigerian people who are currently experiencing economic challenges and food insecurity.

After an amendment to a motion’s prayer proposed by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the House recommended that lawmakers contribute 50% of their monthly salary of N600,000 to assist Nigerians during these challenging times.

Kalu’s revised prayer was influenced by a proposal put forth by Rep Isiaka Ayokunle, urging advocates of the upcoming nationwide protests to abandon the plan and instead initiate discussions with the government.

Deputy speaker Kalu also mentioned that the salary reduction will aid in supporting the federal government’s initiatives to combat the increasing prices of food items in the country, aiming to alleviate the difficulties faced by Nigerians.

This plan has not been well organized at at the time of filling this report by our correspondent, on the proper way of reduction of the half monthly salaries of house of representatives members.

The account at which the money will be directed to and the CBN involvement to give the program a smooth success was not emphasized by Honourable members.

Nigerians will like to understand the process of ascertaining the reduced salaries and where the money will be channeled to effect the purpose at which the reduction was made.

Federal Government will put the record straight and avoid the mismanagement and misappropriation of such huge money after accumulation by the appropriate agency or bank.

How and where the money will be channeled after reduction to properly assist Nigerians through the yet-to-be reduced pay in the harsh economical situation bedevilling the country has to be explained too while thanking Deputy speaker Kalu for presenting such bill targetted at disbursement of a new palliative to Nigerians.

Let there be a permanent remedy to stop poverty, high cost of virtually every commodity in the Nigerian market. High cost of living, transport fare, school bills, petroleum products. Regulations have to placed immediately to check price irregularities prevalent across Nigerian markets, not just reduction of Reps salary.
