The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, has ordered the immediate arrest of vigilante groups carrying firearms in any part of the state.
The spokesperson of the Command Grace Iringe-Koko made this known in a statement.
The CP directed DPOs to arrest anyone seen with firearms within their jurisdiction, adding that the ban on the use of firearms by vigilante groups is still in force.
The directive comes following reports that some vigilante members in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt are bearing firearms in broad daylight. The statement also cautioned vigilante groups against arresting and detaining people.
