Some teachers in Ebonyi State on Sunday reportedly staged a peaceful protest over non-payment of their October, November And December salaries.
According to Rose Ikebe Mbam who shared the video on Facebook, the teachers are demanding for their October, November and December salaries and complaining of the stress of leaving their houses even on Sunday to JAC office inorder to write their names as directed, yet no attention is being given to them by those working at the JAC office instead threatening them that the compilation of names will seize tomorrow being Monday.
Recall that the Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru had asked local government chairmen to clear backlog of salaries and pensions before Christmas celebrations.
Governor Nwifuru gave the directive during the Elders and Widow’s Party organised by the State Government held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.
The Governor frowned at the situation of delayed salaries and pensions of staff of Local Government describing it as worrisome.
While insisting on delivering good governance anchored on the Chartered Needs Agenda, the Governor assured that they will not be sabotage in the cause of executing the social contract with the people.
” By 2PM tomorrow, all the staff of the Local Government should receive their salaries and pensions “
” We are determined to deliver good governance to our people. If you are for us, you join us in what we are doing, if you are not you leave.
” If by 2 PM tomorrow, staff are not paid October and November Salaries, the Chairmen should resign”, the Governor insisted.
Governor Nwifuru then approved immediate payment of 50, 000 Thousand Naira , a bag of 25kg rice and wrapper to each of the 5000 widows and Elders who were hosted to the party.
