Unknown gunmen have killed two prison officials in Okigwe, Imo State, today Wednesday, putting residents into panic.

Other cops were hurt during the early attack at the Umulolo session of the town.

The gunmen ambushed the security staff of the Imo detention institution in their trucks, according to reports.

Two Hilux vehicles of officials of the Imo detention facility were ambushed by gunmen at Umulolo Okigwe on Wednesday morning,” a security official informed reporters.

“Their assailants blew up their automobiles with explosives.” Two cops were murdered immediately, while others were sent to the hospital. The explosives demolished one Hilux vehicle, but it did not affect the other.

The unaffected van has been rescued and returned to base at the command’s headquarters in Owerri. The officers are attached to Operation Search and Flush established by the Imo state government to deal with crimes.

“They took off from Owerri in the morning and on reaching Okigwe, the gunmen who were laying siege ambushed them.”
