BREAKING: WHY YPP ANAMBRA SUED IFEDICHE’s CANDIDACY
The 2023 Anambra State House of Assembly elections has been a topic of interest to many political enthusiasts in Nigeria, and the lawsuit by the Anambra Young Progressive Party (YPP) against Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh (IFEDICHE), the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Nnewi North Constituency, has added more spice to the political discourse.
The Anambra YPP, through its legal representatives, filed a lawsuit against Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh (IFEDICHE) at the Federal High Court Awka, challenging his victory as the PDP Candidate for the Anambra State House of Assembly. The lawsuit was later taken to the Court of Appeal after YPP lost the case at the high court on the grounds that Sir Eloka Ikeh emerged winner of the PDP primaries as a sole candidate.
According to sources close to the YPP, the party was afraid that their candidate, Sir Augustine Ike (Synod), couldn’t match Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE’s impeccable character, political pedigree, and sagacity. The YPP believed that Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh (IFEDICHE) had a strong , an enviable reputation, and an overwhelming level of support from his constituents.
It was further gathered that the YPP felt threatened by Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE’s candidacy, as he was perceived as a strong candidate with a track record of effective representation and delivery of dividends of democracy as a grassroot mobiliser and community leader in Akaboezem Uruagu.
Therefore, the party deemed it necessary to challenge his candidacy in court.
Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE, on the other hand, had expressed confidence in the legal system and his ability to prove his case in court. He stated that he won the PDP primaries fair and square and that the YPP’s decision to challenge his candidacy is a sign of desperation and lack of confidence in their own candidate.
However, it is important to note that the decision of the Anambra YPP to challenge Sir Eloka Clement Ikeh IFEDICHE’s candidacy in court is a clear indication of the level of political competition and intrigue that is inherent in Nigerian politics.
