Governor Mai Mala Buni has appointed Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu.
The Yobe State Government announced the appointment on Friday, through a statement by the acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mohammed Goje.
Ibn Mahmud succeeds the late Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam.
The late emir died recently in Egypt after a prolonged illness and was buried on Friday in Damaturu.
Before his appointment, Ibn Mahmud held the title of Turakin Ngazargamu for 16 years.
He also served as a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly.
Ibn Mahmud served in the State Executive Council at different times including the Commissioner for Livestock Development.
In the statement, Governor Buni congratulated the new emir and the people of Ngazargamu Emirate.
Buni urged Ibn Mahmud to use his experience to promote unity, peace, and development.
The governor called on residents of the emirate to support the new monarch, noting that their support will help progress in the area and the state.
