The outgoing Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has rejected the resignation of Barr. Osarodion Ogie as Secretary to the State Government. ChrisOsaMedia had on Friday reported how Ogie, citing irreconcilable differences with the governor, turned in his resignation, quitting the Obaseki government while blaming the deputy, Philip Shaibu, for his action.

His resignation from the Obaseki government barely 24 hours to the September 19 Edo Governorship election where Obaseki is seeking re-election, came as a rude shock to the governor and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where Ogie acts as the Director-General of the party Campaign Council on paper.

Although, there have been unofficial attempts by handlers of the state government to deny the resignation, Ogie and Obaseki have however kept mum on the development. ChrisOsaMedia group gathered that Ogie was asked not to speak of his resignation in the media.

A reliable source in the Edo Government House, privy to the development, confided in us over the weekend that Ogie had actually attempted to resign long time ago, but for the quick intervention of some prominent leaders of the PDP in South South.

Our source said Ogie was told point-blank by the leaders that making his resignation public at this time of the election would only demoralize his supporters and that of the governor, including members of the PDP.

The source said it was agreed that Ogie should play shadow roles during the electioneering campaigns instead of actively campaigning for the governor as DG, informing of his unavailability or participation in the PDP/Obaseki rallies.

“Even though his resignation is being kept ttop-secret, I can reliably inform you that Ogie has since resigned from the Obaseki government,” the source said, challenging Ogie or Obaseki to personally deny the resignation.

In his resignation letter, Ogie, who is yet to officially declare for the PDP, blamed deputy governor Philip Shaibu for the numerous wrong decisions taking by the governor, accusing him of hijacking the processes leading to the campaigns and misleading Obaseki during the political crisis that rocked the state.

Shaibu, on the other hand, is said to be regretting his actions and roles in the political crisis, accusing Ogie of betrayal, saying he(Shaibu) was misled. This Media House reliably gathered that there have been secret attempts by Shaibu to reach out to his former boss and ex-APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, ahead of the governorship election.

Philip’s woes worsened over the week when he was publicly rejected, embarrassed and humiliated by his own people, as thousands of his immediate constituents protested against him in the Jattu region of Uzaire, in Etsako West local government area.

Shaibu, it was alleged, had gone to Etsako West to perfect plans for rigging the Sept. 19 governorship election in the state when he was booed by a group of youths, which soon turned into a crowd. It is, however, unclear to ChrisOsaMedia if Shaibu perfected the rigging plans with his alleged network of thugs in the district.

This is not the first time key players in the Obaseki-led administration are being publicly embarrassed over their glaring incompetency and betrayals. Obaseki himself was booed on 25th July in Benin City, as his convoy was met by angry residents who called him “ole” (thief.) This was shortly after his defection to the PDP earlier this year.

With their gimmicks, notwithstanding, the people of Edo are resolute, determined and have vowed to send the Lagos-breed governor, Mr. Obaseki, back to Lagos, considering his inability to effectively govern the people, including the countless diversion of public funds and power drunkenness.

The APC is focused on winning today’s gubernatorial election, having convinced and won the people to its side, and will be ready to face the outgoing governor in court, should he shamelessly refuse to accept the awaiting defeat. The Edo people are tired of the reckless and incompetent government of Obaseki, and have vowed to elect Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu at the poll to rescue the State from evil hands.
