The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested Uyi Giwa-Osagie, a top financial handler of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
Inside sources said, Mr Giwa-Osagie, a lawyer, is one of the trusted aides of the presidential candidate.
A source at the EFCC said Mr Giwa-Osagie was arrested on Monday and released after hours of interrogation.
DAILY NIGERIAN reliably gathered that Mr Giwa-Osagie is the major channel through which Mr Atiku funds his presidential campaign and election.
“Atiku does not directly funds his campaign. The truth is that Mr Giwa-Osagie is one of the few people handling Atiku’s campaign funding,” said an a source in Mr Atiku’s campaign organisation.
“With Giwa-Osagie’s arrest, we may face some logistics and financial constraints. You know party agents at each polling unit across the country have to be paid.”
EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, could not be reached at the time of filing in this report.
