A video which shows a groom forcefully dragging his new wife out of their car in front of onlookers has sparked debate.
The Chinese couple had reportedly argued over money, when the bride demanded to be paid a large amount before she would get out of the car. The footage the shows him grabbing her and yanking until she is out of the vehicle.
The groom, however claimed that he was angry because the driver of the car was the one demanding money, according to reports.
According to Chengdu Evening Post , Mr and Mrs Li married on January 17 in Anyue town of Ziyang city, Sichuan Province.
While official reports claim that the money was the reason behind his aggressive behaviour, others have claimed that the bride slept with her ex-boyfriend the night before the wedding, and others even alleged that the bride had children that the groom didn’t know about, and had introduced him to them on the day of the ceremony.
The groom told the Chengdu Evening Post that “It was because of the chauffeur of the wedding car. He stopped the car a few times on a 10-minute journey and asked for red packets.”
Red packets are monetary gifts used in important events, such as Lunar New Year and weddings, as a symbol of blessing.
“Every time the car stopped, we were surrounded by guests [who also wanted money] and we had given away all the red packets,” he added.
A bridesmaid confirmed that the couple had been angry with the driver, but an excuse was not given for the groom’s behaviour towards the bride.
