Nigeria’s Super Eagles have won over President Muhammadu Buhari after their outstanding 3-1 victory over Algeria in the African qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
An impressed President Buhari joined millions of football loving fans in the country in celebrating “the very-much improved national team” for meeting national expectations during the entertaining and action-soaked encounter.
The President commended the team and its handlers for displaying uncommon strength, determination and high professionalism in the onward and steady progress to the 2018 tournament in Russia.
President Buhari assured the team that the Federal Government; and indeed all Nigerians will continue to support them to make the nation proud.
The President also commended the Akwa-Ibom State government for hosting the match and the fans for their good conduct and sportsmanship throughout the game.
Nigeria has now won six points after from two impressive wins, the first against Zambia. Cameroon are second in the group with two points, while Algeria and Zambia have a point each.
Nigeria will next meet Cameroon on 28 August and 2 September 2017, while Algeria will play Zambia during the same period.
