Honouring the two-page letter written by the leadership of the Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria (ELFON), led by Amb. Godstime Chukwubuikem Samuel to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, demanding that Monday, the 24th day of May 2021 be declared as Public holiday, President Muhammadu Buhari has declared Monday, May 24, a work-free day for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in honour of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the late Chief of Army Staff and 10 others who died in an air crash on Friday, May 21.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said this in a statement on Sunday, May 23.

Our correspondent gathered that the Nigerian leader also ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities and official residences from Monday, May 24 to Wednesday, May 26th.

In its report of the development, AIT said President Buhari has approved three days of national mourning in honour of the fallen soldiers. The news media was also making reference to the period where the president ordered that flags be flown at half-mast.

These goes along way to affirm that President Buhari is sensitive to the yearnings of Nigerians and have regard for our fallen heroes.
