I wonder why people are still castigating General Muhamnadu Buhari for not attending the IBB book launch.
At least, I learnt he sent a former Minister in his administration to represent him, which is fair enough for an occasion he did not believe was going to be a fair one to his own beliefs.
IBB was part of the group who removed Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari from power. Buhari became the Head of State by the concensus of the coupists, but not IBB who secretly had an agenda of his own. IBB therefore, revoved Buhari, only 20 months later because he wanted to be the Head of State.
He incarcerated Muhamnadu Buhari, not allowing him to see his sick mother, until she died without seeing him again. He demonized the administration of Buhari and ruthlessly dealt with all his loyalists in the Nigerian Army.
An account from IBB will definitely not be fair to Buhari, nor will Buhari ever endorse the actions of a person he believed removed him from office for reasons other than the nation’s interest. Moreover, Buhari believed in General Sani Abacha and the vision of his administration.
That is why he accepted to serve under him as the Chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund. At the occasion, and in the book he launched , IBB decidedly shifted the entire blame of June 12 elections cancelation on Abacha.
Buhari does not believe in all these. Buhari could not, therefore , attend a fuction where his person, his admistration and the the person of Abacha , who is also not around to defend himself will be portrayed in negative light.
I totally support the intentional absence of Buhari at that occasion.—-
