Nigerian-born International superstar, Burna Boy’s first ever Australian tour has been cancelled after the Australian Department of Home Affairs denied him a visiting visa.

9News Nigeria learnt that the Grammy award-winning star @burnaboygram was due to perform his first headline show in Australia this Friday at the Aware Super Theatre in Sydney.

According to a report by Australian ABC News, the show was overbooked to the extent that thousands of Aussie concertgoers felt disappointed that they were not able to book their tickets for the concert.

Burna Boy was also set to perform at the Gold Coast’s Promiseland Festival on Saturday which has also been cancelled.

Recall that Burna Boy’s unique fusion of afrobeat, dancehall and reggae has seen him previously sell out New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The cancellation of the concert was made known through a joint statement issued by the promoters, Live Nation and The Hour Group.

The statement read in part: “It is with great regret that Burna Boy’s performance at Aware Super Theatre on Friday 30 September has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

“All ticket holders will receive an automatic refund. If your details have changed, or you have any refund enquiries, please contact your point of purchase.”

The spokesperson of the Australian Department of Home Affairs who was contacted on Burna Boy’s visa status said the Department does not comment on individual cases.

“The Department considers visa applications on a case-by-case basis,” the spokesperson said.

“All non-citizens must meet, and continue to meet, the requirements set out in the Migration Act 1958 and the Migration Regulations 1994, including identity, security, health and character requirements.”

The Department is able to request police clearance certificates and a character declaration in order to determine visa eligibility.
