At least 13 journalists sustained injuries on Friday, following a round accident involving the vehicle conveying them to to Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The crash occurred on Yashi-Yelwan Duguri Road while the media crew was covering the commissioning and handover of projects by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).
According to NERC statement, the vehicle carrying the journalists veered off the road and overturned, leaving several media workers with varying degree of injury.
Those hurt in the crash include correspondents and camera operators from major outlets such as Channels Television, The Guardian, The Nation Newspapers, Arise News, AIT, NAN, NTA, Bauchi Radio Corporation, and Bauchi State Television, as well as an online media reporter. The driver of the vehicle was also injured.
The NERC expressed deep sympathy for the journalists and pledged full support to the victims and assistance to their families.
Efforts are underway to coordinate further treatment and support through the respective media organizations.
Initial emergency care was provided locally, and many of those injured are being moved to larger facilities for further treatment.
Official updates on their condition are expected as doctors continued assessments.
