A community in Bayelsa state Nigeria, is seriously ravaged by surging erosion from the rising sea and its residents are crying for help from Government to save their lives and properties.

The community is popular because of such mishap that has bedeviled the area.

9Newd Nigeria reports that the costal erosion has troubled Sangana community in Bayelsa state Nigeria. The residents of the area on the Atlantic Fringe of Brass local government area of Bayelsa State are now living in perpetual fear and tension.

The natives are angry that the Federal Government and the oil companies have not intervened despite worsening erosion challenges rocking the area.

Several protests are staged to attract government attention to save SANGANA Community but all proved to no avail.

Accordingly, the Federal Government through its agency, the NDDC, and other oil companies domiciled in the area have not responded at least to cushion the effect of erosion in the area.

“We have, Chevron, Statoil, Shell (H-Block), Consolidated Oil and Gas company and NIGDEL working in Sangana community but all have neglected the plights and concern of the host community.

It has been long ago oil companies started mining and production of crude oil in Sangana community but there is no single benefit or project established in the area till the date of filling this report by 9News Nigeria.

Recall that this is a similar case with the Ohaji Egbema people whose land and roads are destroyed by oil companies without due compensation.

From the look of devastation in Sangana community, such massive coastal erosion if not checked immediately will completely submerge the area and there will be nothing like Sangana community as 9News Nigeria reports.

Our correspondent confirmed the state of devastation in Sangana community as worrisome and dangerous and something that demands government immediate attention to save the people because more than one kilometer of Sangana land is already submerged by heavy erosion.

Speaking with 9News Nigeria, community development Chairman of Sangana kingdom, Reuben Preboye , said the FG, NDDC and all other Oil Firms tapping from their natural resources have allegedly refused to perform their corporate social responsibilities.

The community Chairman, Preboye frowned at the ugly development while calling on the government of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to kindly come to their rescue.

He told our correspondent that these companies mentioned have been extracting Oil in the community for the past three decades.

It is very important to note that President Tinubu direct the NDDC and relevant agencies to address the ocean surge and erosion to save SANGANA community from extinction, Sangana people cries out.
