The current National Chairman of Nigeria apex electoral body Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan denial of ownership of a pro-APC X posts from his personal X account has triggered deeper search on his alleged bias which is detrimental to other political parties.
While the calls for his resignation from individuals, civil rights groups, Muslim communities and political parties are becoming louder everyday, 9newsng.com has unravelled other facts which call Prof Amupitan neutrality as National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to question.
Amupitan is a Professor of Law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria with bias on Company Law, Law of Evidence, Corporate Governance, Privatisation Law, Petroleum Law and Electoral Law Reform
He was presented by President Bola Tinubu to National Council of State which unanimously approved his nomination to be the National Chairman of INEC on Oct 2025
He was screened by NSA, DSS, and IGP and confirmed by the Senate.
But before he was confirmed, the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) signed and submitted a protest letter to the Senate on October 10, 2025 to restrain the National Assembly from confirming Prof Amupitan to head the country apex electoral body.
The letter dated and signed on October 10, 2025 by Jesse Williams Amuga, ALDRAP’s Administrative Secretary was addressed to the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Senator Simon Lalong (APC, Plateau South)
Same letter copied the President of the Senate through the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters
ALDRAP’s protest against misleading the country through the appointment of Amupitan was also sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, DG of DSS, Inspector-General of Police, and ambassadors of the United States, European Union, and United Kingdom
ALTRAP’s opposition against Prof. Amupitan nomination is that the current INEC Chairman served as Lead Counsel to APC during the 2023 Presidential Election and was the Lead Counsel at the Petition Election Petition Tribunal which she (ALDRAP) cited as conflict of interest and that his announcement on who will wins the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections will be ‘ fait accompli’ against other political parties in the forthcoming general election.
Everyday and at the thick of the clock the public outcry calling for Amupitan resignation is getting louder
The general public and Nigerians on social media are calling for Prof Joash Amupitan immediate sack or resignation” after a controversial X post.
A YouTube video titled “BREAKING: Nigerians Demand Resignation of Amupitan Over Partisan Tweets Declaring ‘Victory is Sure'” shows public pressure from every side.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), through its spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi and the ADC House of Reps caucus, are demanding for Amupitan resignation and they are threatening civil disobedience
Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria former Vice President, cited concerns over perceived impartiality if Prof. Amupitan remains in office.
The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has long demanded that Amupitan be dropped.
Concerned Nigerian Citizens, via a Change.org petition are demanding for the INEC chairman “immediate resignation”
Farooq Kperogi, a US-based Nigerian academic, published a column arguing that archived posts from an X account bearing Amupitan’s name raised “serious concerns about the credibility and neutrality” of INEC. He called on the INEC chairman to resign.
