A Japanese technology firm with global recognition, Canon, has unveiled plans aimed at revolutionalising the Nigerian photography market.

With a 41 per cent global market share in the Digital Interchangeable Lens Camera (DILC) technology, Canon said its operations in Nigeria were targeted at enhancing its business in Africa and strengthening in-country presence and focus.

According to it, a dedicated entity has been set up in Nigeria to reinforce the company’s ‘closer-to-customer’ strategy in West African region.

The firm said it would provide value added on-ground marketing and sales support to new and existing partners as well as customers to meet their demand in the rapidly-evolving Nigerian market.

The Nigerian entity will also provide Canon the opportunity to gain in-depth reach across Africa and to better understand the changing market dynamics and customer demand.

The firm disclosed that the newly-set up entity would be under the directives of Canon Central and North Africa’s (CCNA) office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and would include two country managers who will oversee the provision of on-ground support to Tier 1 distributors across the country. This, according to it, is in addition to a dedicated sales planning manager based in Canon office in Dubai, who will be responsible for all Tier 1 operations across West African markets.

CCNA also intends to appoint five Channel Account Managers in the country in 2017 to support its Tier 2 dealer network and enhance the brand presence and visibility in the market.

Managing Director of CCNA, Roman Troedthandl, said: “Strengthening our operations in Nigeria is a testament to our commitment to invest in African markets and provide the best possible services to our customers and partners in the region. We will further enhance our network of distributors and partners in Nigeria and across West Africa. The market has seen substantial growth in the past, and has tremendous potential for further growth.

“Nigeria, with the largest population of over 180 million within Africa and the high MASH growth potential, is a key market for Canon. It is an important hub in industrial & production printing segment, and has a thriving film industry – all of which Canon can support through our value added services. Our goal is to extend our services to the largest number of customers possible by being closer to them.”

Meanwhile, Canon Sales Director, Michele Tuscano, noted that for the firm to succeed in Africa, it plans to have its presence in Nigeria and was also doing this with high-level partners.

He said that the firm was also working with global organisations to to achieve its goals.
