In a tragic turn of events during the New Year Mass held on January 1, 2025, Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Into State, a Catholic Reverend, Rev. Fr. Joseph Enyinnaya, has reportedly shot a boy to death.
According eyewitness accounts, the boy was allegedly setting “knockouts” within the Church premises when the priest, pick up a firearm and fatally shot him, after he had previously issued warnings against the use of knockouts during the events.
Despite his warnings some youths repeatedly lit fireworks.
In what appears to have been an attempt to enforce his directive, the clergyman allegedly retrieved the firearm and open fire on the group.
The incident left one boy dead while others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
