A report reaching 9News Nigeria early this morning, has it that a caterpillar, heavy construction equipment, belonging to a local construction company has fallen off the Carter bridge crushing vehicles with passengers inside.
As at time of filling this report, the cause of the fall has not been clearly ascertained. Cars and other vehicles were affected and those inside the vehicles are trapped.
Members of the Lagos state emergency response unit have been contacted and they are on their way to start rescue operations.
It has not yet been known of the number of vehicles and persons affected but from the report, scores were affected.
Pedestrians as well as commuters were seen rushing to the scene of the incident probably in bid to see how to lend helping hand.
Onlookers were also seen surrounding the scene and environs. While some were still in shock and amazement, others were frantically making minute effort to lend a helping hand, but yet to no avail.
An eye witness said that he heard the noise of the fall and then rushed there to see what happened, and it turned out that it was a caterpillar that fell from the bridge falling on top of vehicles that were plying the road and crushing them. “The noise was very loud and we wondered what was it, so we came here to see”, he said.
