Chief Imam of the Jos Central Mosque in Plateau State, Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, has been confirmed dead.
The cleric died at a hospital in Jos on Thursday, July 11, after a brief illness.
He was 80 years old.
Bashir Lawal Adam confirmed the passing of his father to journalists in Jos.
He said the late Islamic cleric left behind three wives, 14 children and many grandchildren.
In a statement in Jos, Plateau State Publicity Secretary of Jama’atu Nasir Islam (JNI), Sani Mudi, described the cleric’s death as a loss to the entire Muslim community in the State.
“Sheikh Adam was an erudite scholar, Islamic jurist, renowned Qur’anic scholar, and a respected leader of the Muslim community.
He was appointed Deputy Chief Imam in 2009 and later Chief Imam in 2015″, Mudi said.
The statement further stated that the late Imam would be buried on Friday after funeral prayers, according to Islamic injunction.
