Chinwe Russell Art Prize: A call for Nigerian visual artists

In a call for visual artists across Nigeria, prominent and pivotal Nigerian-British Artist, Chinwe Russell has launched the Chinwe Russell Art Prize, which is an online initiative focused on the exceptional talent of Nigerian visual artists on a global platform.

In a statement shared with 9News Nigeria, the art prize aims to “spotlight the diversity and creativity prevalent in the vibrant Nigerian visual art sector while fostering increased local and international recognition.”

The Chinwe Russel Art Prize is looking generally for visual artists living and working in Nigeria, including specialists in Painting, Sculpture, Textile, Found Object Art, Illustration, Recycled material art, Ceramics and pottery and more.

Open to Nigerian artists, the art prize will receive comprehensive social media and national media coverage, featuring all sorts of prizes and awards presentations.

According to the statement, the art prize will also collaborate with art departments of Nigerian universities as project partners to encourage students and facilitate engagements with the arts and cultural sector to stimulate economic development.

Furthermore, submissions are absolutely free but would require a participation fee upon selection.

Chinwe Russell is a British artist of Nigerian descent, known for her global artistic works and style, supporting over 2,000 artists annually.

Her work has been showcased in prestigious venues worldwide, including the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, and the Shanghai International Art Fair.

Chinwe’s most notable collection includes, 20 Historical Women Who Changed the World, Tribes of Africa, and Gods of Africa.
