“Always Be Truthful, Not Neutral” – CNN Anchor, Christiane Amanpour.
Veteran journalist Christine Amanpour is set to leave CNN in June 2027, bringing her 43-year career with the international news network to end.
According to CNN, the 68-year-old world renowned journalist announced her decision Monday October 19, 2026, saying she had spent several months weighing her future before deciding to part ways with the broadcaster.
In a statement announcing her departure, Amanpour said she came to the decision to “separate” from the network “after many months of thought and few sleepless nights” and described CNN as her partner for more than four decades.

“From my very exciting assignment covering the first Gulf war, to the horrors of the Bosnian war, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Iran and all the points in between, It’s the teams and the camaraderie that counted so much, as we together battled to seek the facts, the evidence and the humility, so that CNN could always broadcast the truth about the world and to the world, without fear nor favor”, she wrote.
She ended her statement by encouraging her CNN colleagues: “Remember: always be truthful, not neutral”.
Amanpour has been open about her ongoing treatment for ovarian cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2021.
Her decision comes at a notable time for the network, which is now part of a larger media conglomerate called Skydance that is run by David Ellison, his Trump-donor father and Oracle co-founder.
Her exit is not thought to be specifically tied to the network’s new ownership, which is viewed skeptically by some CNN journalists because of its perceived closeness to the Trump administration.
But, in her statement, Amanpour seemed to nod to concerns about the network’s future, saying that she “will always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism”.
She expanded on that commitment to independence in a taped message to viewers of her CNN International show on Monday.
Amanpour became known for interviewing world leaders and covering major political and humanitarian crises, building a reputation for incisive questioning and international reporting.
Since 2009, Amanpour has hosted CNN’s international interview programme, ‘Amanpour’.
The programme is expected to move to a weekly schedule in January 2027 before ending in May, while she continues reporting and traveling on assignments for the network until June.
Her public television programme, ‘Amanpour & Company’, which airs on PBS in the United States, is also scheduled to end in December 2026.
Amanpour briefly left CNN in 2010 to become the anchor of ABC News. ‘This Week’, succeeding George Stephanopoulos, but later returned to the network.
Despite her planned exit, the CNN’s anchor said she would continue to support the network commitment to independent journalism while exploring new professional opportunities.
