The Catholic Archdiocese of Kafanchan has said the unrest in Southern Kaduna State has claimed 808 lives.

Fifty three villages have so far been attacked and 57 people injured, the church said.

Governor Nasir el Rufai had earlier said the attackers were foreign Fulani herdsmen avenging past attacks on them and their livestock.

But, the state and federal governments have been accused of not doing enough to end the bloodshed.

The latest killing last week took place despite a curfew imposed on three local governments affected by the crisis.

At a press conference, alongside four other clerics, yesterday, Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kafanchan, Ibrahim Yakubu, said government has failed to protect locals.

Yakubu said four local government areas have been attacked, with 808 people killed and 1,422 houses, 16 Churches, 19 shops, and one primary school destroyed.

“Unfortunately, our governments, both at the centre and at the state levels have failed woefully. If anything, government has shown outright partisanship in favour of the herdsmen, to the disappointment of the majority Southern Kaduna indigenes and Christians.”

The religious leaders called for an immediate end to attacks in the area, and demanded compensation for all families who lost loved ones or property.

They also called for the setting up of a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the causes of the crisis.

“We call on Southern Kaduna indigenes to remain steadfast in prayer, united, strong and never to cave in to the antics of our adversaries. Tribe and denominational differences shouldn’t put a chasm between us,” the statement said.

  1. Most times it seems to me like an urban legend when I hear the news of the incessant butcherings in the North & Northeast of Xtians, aswell as ethnic cleansing of the Biafrans in the North and back home even at their own backyard. What hurts and marvel me the most the criminal inaction of the state and federal government to whom these things happen under their watch. It hurts me the more that its only few folks like the irrepressible governor Fayose and Fani Kayode who could come out boldly to speak against this inspeakable evil without being political correct about it. What shocks and hurt me the most is the criminal apathy of the Nigerian xtians , church entepreneus who are captive of what I call ” just within the church building xtianity” (apology to Marthin Luther) whose xtianity does not extend to social justice. I am shocked that most Nigerian are so blindsighted that they can see what I see…. I can see a very straight line between the scale and persistency of the attack by these Fulanis and the ascendance of PMB, a Fulani irredentist into the ‘Aso throne’.

  2. Stop this senseless killing of Christen now pls, especially in the north precisely Kaduna and kano, Buhari the president and governors of this two state should call the war munger to stop the killing of Christian now if truly Buhari the Nigerian president whom I spent my money and my time to voted for, I am very angry at barbaric way your people are killing Christian, it going to course an endless war in Nigeria ,Therefore I call on president to call your people to other, if they have hijack you from Nigerians maybe they hide under your leadership because OK I beg this is my protests to my president General Buhari.
