Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the formation of a coalition in the Lagos Local Government elections as a welcome development for Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Gbajabiamila noted that while such alliances are not new in the political space, they remain a positive sign of democratic maturity.
“It’s a welcome development with the coalition. It’s not the first time we’re seeing this. In every democracy, we must have some level of opposition, otherwise we’ll run into a one-party state,” he stated.
However, he expressed uncertainty about the direction the coalition would ultimately take, saying, “I’m not sure where it would go.”
Gbajabiamila also hailed the electoral process, describing the local government election as free and fair, but lamented the low voter turnout across the state.
