Combating Climate Change: Borno Gov. Purchase 10 Locally-Made Tricycles To Plant, Nurture Trees

Borno State Government has purchased ten locally-made tricycles for the planting and nurturing of tree seedlings in the state.

The initiative it says is to combat climate change and promote sustainable development in the state.

Led by it’s Managing Director, Amb. Usman Aliyu, the Borno State Agency for Great Green Wall (BOAGGW) has unveiled the fleet of tricycles in Maiduguri.

To ensure the seedlings thrive, BOAGGW said the tricycles are equipped with water tanks to water the trees.

”These tricycles, constructed in Borno, can hold approximately 1,200 liters of water each, providing a reliable source of hydration for the seedlings,” Mr. Aliyu explained.

According to the agency, the action is a part of a larger campaign to plant ten million seedlings across the state.

Governor of the State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, who inaugurated the 10 million seedlings campaign this year in Maiduguri, emphasized the importance of the initiative in addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing Borno.

He directed the newly established BOAGGW agency, to spearhead climate change initiatives and oversee the planting and nurturing of the seedlings.

As part of the initiative, BOAGGW has been supporting communities affected by natural disasters.

The agency has already begun its work, this time, focusing on flood-affected areas and schools in the state’s capital, Maiduguri.

The agency also note that they have planted various seedlings and are distributing them to communities devastated by the recent floods.

Mr. Aliyu is also calling on community leaders, youths, and NGOs to support the agency’s efforts by participating in planting and nurturing the seedlings.

”In response to the devastating floods, the agency has donated seedlings to affected communities,” he said.

Stating further, Aliyu noted that ”Galtumari community received 70 seedlings, while Gamboru communities were provided with 200 seedlings and protective barriers.”

Additionally he said, the Borno State University (BOSU) has also received 100 seedlings to provide shade and alleviate the scorching heat during the hot season.
