The National Stadium Lagos will be better maintained under the control of the Lagos State Government, the Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Sports Facilities, Yusuf Bolaji has said.
Bolaji, who spoke with The AUTHORITY, while projecting on sports in 2017 regrets that a viable edifice like the National Stadium in Lagos has been left to rot away due to poor maintenance.
He believes that Lagos has what it takes to bring the stadium back to its glory and urged other stakeholders to prevail on the federal government to concession the stadium to the Lagos state government.
“It pains me and I cry each time I walk past the national stadium in Lagos, seeing such a gigantic edifice is left to rot away. I remembered growing up as a child in Lagos in the middle 70s, that stadium was the pride of Nigerians and it was a joy to visit the place but today it’s an eye saw.
“There have been talks of concession of the stadium in the past by the government and the Lagos state government has always shown interest. So I think the time has come for other stakeholders to prevail on the government to concession the stadium to the Lagos government for better maintenance and use of the stadium because we cannot continue to allow it to waste away.
