The conference of presiding officers of Nigerian LEGISLATURES COPON has charged the National ASSEMBLY to make hay to institute provisions for the creation of state police and devolution of powers in the ongoing constitution amendment exercise.

COPON made this statement while speaking with 9News Nigeria on their reasons for the call on the devolution of powers leading to the establishment of state and community police.

The body however commended NASS and the APC Government led by PRESIDENT BUHARI on the current efforts to combat Insecurity in the country and advised not to relent.

Meanwhile, the Senate and House of Representatives committees on the review of the 1999 constitution have been called upon to make these provisions to help the country grow.

Speaker Femi told the press that the legislature was an important component of Government in any democratic setting and on this, therefore, called for the collaboration between the NASS and the 36 states houses to make the constitution review a success.

Chairman of COPON, Hon.Olakunle Oluomo and his members: Hon. Francis Nwiforu, Hon. Udaha EMMANUEL, Hon. Longbag Ponven Wuyep and Hon. Joseph Kunini are seriously making frantic efforts to facilitate the review and adopt the devolution of powers.

But the issue here has been the delay in the process of this adoption and its implementation.

What is your comments and ideas to make the constitution review a success?
