Corpse of Missing Community Leader In Delta State Found Floating in Warri River

The corpse of Onotata Midehire Oghenevwede, the community leader of the Igbudu community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State has allegedly been found floating in a river.

The deceased, Onotata Midehire Oghenevwede (alias Ogbogbo) the Defence Secretary of the Igbudu community was declared missing two weeks ago. His family and leaders of the community reported the incident to the police after efforts to find him proved abortive.

On 20th May 2021 the Youth Secretary of Igbudu Community, Mr Edward Onomavwe made this post on Facebook: “Missing, This is to inform the General Public that the Man on this Picture has been declared missing for two weeks now, anyone with useful information of his whereabouts should Please contact the Defense Unit of Igbudu Community Warri, before now, he was the Secretary of the Defence Unit. His name is Mr Victor Onotas,or call 08022222646”

It was gathered that the residents of the community received news that there was a corpse floating in the Warri River which was by Igbudu Waterside. The community acted on the news and searched for the body for three days before the corpse was finally found and identified as the missing Onotata Midehire Oghenevwede.

On 21st May 2021 Edward Onomavwe also posted this statement on Facebook: “With deep regret, we the Executive and the entire indigenes of Igbudu community deeply announce the death of our Beloved Brother, friend, Mr Victor Onotas who’ sad event took place some weeks ago, until his demise, he was the Secretary of the Defence Unit.”

According to a report seen by 9News Nigeria South-South correspondent, the already decomposing body of Onotata Midehire Oghenevwede was found floating in the Warri River. A witness who saw the corpse on Friday, May 21, 2021, said that his hands and feet were tied and bruises were found on his face.

The corpse was still wearing Igbudu Community Anticult vest which he wore when he was last seen before he was declared missing.

“There was a reported case of a corpse floating in the Pessu Waterside. So the community sent people to go and identify the corpse. And it was Ogbogbo who was identified with the Igbudu Community anticult vest he was wearing before his death,” a source said
