The Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja on Thursday, granted Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, bail of N50 million Naira and one surety in like sum
The surety must be a person of reasonable integrity resident in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and owns a landed property within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
This is even as the presiding Judge rejected a motion to imprison her pending the determination of the case.
The Senator was arraigned on Tuesday over a three-count charge bordering on alleged defamation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello.
The charges relates to statements she allegedly made during a television interview.
Presiding over the matter, Justice Chizoba Orji ruled that the alleged offence was not capital in nature, adding that the law still presumes the defendant innocent.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was granted bail, while the court adjourned the case to September 23, 2025, for further hearing.
