The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has ruled against the seven-member Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, led by Tony Okocha.
The committee, appointed by the National Working Committee of the APC, was dismissed by the court.
Justice Sika Aprioku delivered the ruling on Monday, siding with a suit filed by Sam Sam Etetegwung, Banarth Ezemoye, Ezekiel Ubom, and other members of the party who challenged the legitimacy of the caretaker committee.
The court’s decision reinstates the democratically elected executive led by Emeka Beke as the authentic leadership of the APC in Rivers State.
The court’s ruling is a significant victory for the faction supporting Emeka Beke, as it reaffirms their position as the rightful leaders of the party in the state.
The dismissal of the caretaker committee marks a decisive move in resolving the internal disputes within the APC in Rivers State.
Recall that in July, the Rivers State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, said the appeal court verdict during Rivers State State House of Assembly tussle meant that the pro-Wike lawmakers are still in charge, the camp loyal to the former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, disagreed.
In a short message sent to our correspondent, Okocha, who is an ally of Wike, welcome the judgment, saying justice had been served in the matter.
