Court stops Governor Adeleke from demoting traditional rulers

The Osun State High Court sitting in Ikirun has granted an ex parte order restraining Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke from demoting two traditional rulers in the state.

The traditional rulers in Boluwaduro Local Government area are Oloke Olooru Obalufon of Okeolooru Obalufon Land, Oba Olasunkanmi Mathew Ogundele and the Onirante of Irante Land, Oba Mukaila Micheal Adebisi.

The monarchs, through separate ex parte motions sought order of the court to stop the purported plan by some officials of the state Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs from demoting them after their elevation as Part II Obas in the state.

The Governor of Osun State was listed as 8th respondent in the ex parte motion while the Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Boluwaduro Local Government were listed as 7th, 6th and 5th defendants respectively.

Meanwhile, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respondents include the Oluresi of İresi Oba Sikiru Adeseun Ibiloye, the Owa of Otan Ayegbaju, Oba Luqman Fadipe Arenibiowo, Owa of Igbajo, Oba Dr. ASK Makinde and the Onirun of Oke-Irun, Oba Isaac Adetoyi Adetulurese.

Hon Justice I.O. Adeleke in his ruling granted an Order of Interim Injunction restraining all defendants whether severally and jointly or by themselves, their agents, privies and servants from acting in any manner that is contrary to the customs and traditions, Chief’s Law of Osun State regulating the process and procedure of the elevation and promotion of the Claimants to Part II Oba pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The court also granted an order restraining the defendants from doing anything fraudulent, illegal and/or unlawful as relates to the promotion and elevation of the Claimants based on the fictitious claim(s) of the 1st and 2nd Defendants and contrary to the provisions of the Chief’s Law and Section 36 and 42 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended)
