The Anambra State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its sustained anti-crime operations, arrested three suspects in separate operations in Nnewi and Onitsha.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Nnewi Sector and Police Mobile Force 54, recovered a six-round English-made pistol during a visibility patrol on the evening of September 26, 2026, in Nnewi North metropolis. The team intercepted two male persons riding a Tiger 150 motorcycle without a registration number. Upon search, the firearm was recovered.
The suspects were identified as Ekwulugo Chiemierie Joseph, 33, and Enyiobi Geoffrey Somtochukwu, 29. They were taken into custody and are assisting with investigation into the source of the weapon and its intended use.
In a related development, operatives of Fegge Police Station acting on credible intelligence, disrupted a suspected cult-related gathering at Abagana Street, Fegge, Onitsha. One suspect, Chinedu Ike, 25, was arrested while others fled on sighting the police. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspect allegedly belongs to the Vikings Confraternity.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the cultism case be transferred to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit for discreet investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects.
CP Ama said the successes demonstrate the importance of police visibility, coordinated stop and search and intelligence-led policing in curbing violent crimes and cultism. He assured Ndi Anambra of sustained patrols and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information.
