The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N1.38 trillion in revenue in July and August 2026.

Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, disclosed this on Tuesday at a joint security agencies briefing in Abuja.

According to Maiwada, the Service collected N784.65 billion in July and N595.58 billion in August, bringing the total for the two-month period to approximately N1.38 trillion.

He said the Apapa Area Command contributed N323 billion in July, its highest monthly collection to date.

The command also recorded a new daily revenue milestone on August 18, 2026, when it generated N28.1 billion in a single day, surpassing its previous record of N20.1 billion set in September 2025.

Maiwada attributed the improved performance to increased use of technology, faster trade-processing procedures and improved border controls.

Customs, during the two-month period,  processed 90,985 Single Goods Declarations, comprising 55,731 in July and 35,254 in August.

It also processed 8,873 Pre-Arrival Assessment Reports.

The NCS also reported significant growth in export activity during the period.

The Lilypond Export Command recorded an export value of $792.57 million in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 24.35 per cent increase from $599.60 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.

Agricultural exports accounted for $422.09 million, while exports of manufactured goods rose sharply to $350.67 million, almost three times the value recorded in the corresponding period.

Collections under the Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) also increased by 9.52 per cent to N5.38 billion.

Between July and August 26, the command processed a total of 9,322 export containers containing agricultural produce, manufactured goods, solid minerals and other commodities.

On anti-smuggling operations, Maiwada disclosed that Area Commands and Federal Operations Units of the Service seized smuggled goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) exceeding N61.3 billion.

He said the seizures were recorded across several areas, including Adamawa/Taraba, Ogun, Seme and the Federal Operations Unit Zone A.

The intercepted items included petroleum products, rice, sugar, cannabis, cigarettes, elephant tusks and other prohibited goods.

Maiwada said collaboration with other security and government agencies, alongside the deployment of technology, remained central to the Service’s efforts to increase revenue collection, facilitate legitimate trade and combat smuggling.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthening border security while creating a more efficient environment for legitimate businesses and international trade.
