A social commentator and right activist Hon. Amobi Okonkwo (Anunuebe Nnewi) on the late hours of Wednesday blamed the Chairman Medical advisory committee of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital for the death of Associate Professor of Immunology Unizik Dr. Martins Ifeanyichukwu.

Hon. Okonkwo told press men in Nnewi that from investigations ongoing, the renowned staff of the university and hospital died due to lack of oxygen in the hospital’s ambulance facility. He expressed disappointment on the activities of the CMAC who abandoned his colleague who was suspected to exhibit Covid 19 symptoms and concentrated in his quest to become the Chief Medical Director.

In his words;
Dr. Ugboaja who is the CMAC of NAUTH was moving from one business man’s house to another seeking for endorsement to become the CMD while he was not on ground as the head of clinical services to ensure the Dr. Martins Ifeanyichukwu got the required attention. He left his colleague in the hands of house officers who could not help. I was discovered that only a half filled oxygen cylinder was available in a whole Federal Teaching hospital to transfer a top staff of the hospital to Irua in Edo state. Irua is about four (5) hours drive from nnewi in Anambra state.

The CMAC didn’t ensure proper support of the hospital to her staff and a man who could have survived died half way to Edo state because the oxygen finish on the way. This is very sad and this negligence must be investigated.

He expressed disappointment on the side of the CMAC as he prioritized his political gain over the job he took oath to do. His administration has been filled with negligence and lack of coordination as he said that similar incidence led to the death of the college provost.

He called on the necessary stakeholders to investigate the actions and inactions of Dr. Ugboaja as he has continued to lag in his responsibilities.

Recall that Dr. Martins Ifeanyichukwu was the formal HOD of Medical Laboratory Science and that of Immunology in the faculty of medicine. He was suspected to exhibit some symptoms of Covid 19 and he died while being transferred to Irua Facility.
