Mahamat Idriss Déby of Chad has became the Marshal of Chad, a title that holds the highest distinction in the country.
Deby, aged 40, was decorated in a grand ceremony at the Presidential Palace on Saturday.
This historic moment was witnessed by prominent figures, including Senator Ali Modu Sheriff (SAS), the former governor of Borno State.
By assuming this title, Déby follows in the footsteps of his father and solidifies his position in Chad’s leadership history.
The National Transitional Council’s decision to confer this honor on Déby, comes at a crucial time, as the transitional period in Chad nears its conclusion. The legislative elections in Chad is set for December 29 this year.
Déby’s new title is a notable achievement, considering his relatively young age and the significant role he has played in the country’s leadership.
His leadership has also been recognized beyond Chad’s borders.
Earlier, Derby was unofficially mandated by Economic Confederation of West African States (ECOWAS), to mediate with the military junta in Niger.
