Details Of PDP Governors Meeting Finally Revealed, Atiku Warned

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have stated that the party has no intention of entering into any coalition with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

The declaration comes just a month after the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, unveiled plans for a Coalition of Opposition Political Parties aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku, a former Vice President, made the announcement during a press conference at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where he spoke on behalf of opposition leaders while condemning the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State.

However, reacting to the development, the PDP Governors’ Forum distanced the party from any formal coalition arrangement.

Speaking on behalf of the governors, the Forum’s chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, said the PDP remains open to welcoming others into its fold but is not considering a merger or coalition at this time.

“The forum resolved that the PDP will not join any coalition or merger. However, the PDP as a major opposition party welcomes any party, parties or groups that are willing to join it for the view to wresting power and controlling good leadership in 2027,” he said following a meeting in Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Monday.

They also said that they stand in solidarity with their colleague from Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara over the declaration of a State of Emergency in the South-South state by President Bola Tinubu.

In the communique issued after the meeting, the governors reaffirmed their commitment to avert the disregard for the nation’s democracy following the emergency rule declared by President Tinubu in the state.

Signed by Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the governors announced their resolve to approach the Supreme Court to give a clear cut verdict on the interpretation of the provisions of the law on the State of Emergency in Nigeria.Nigerian cultural tours

They said, “The Forum reasserts our collective determination to avert a rape of our constitutional democracy hence the decision of approaching the Supreme Court to give a clear cut verdict on the interpretation of the provisions of the law on the declaration of State of Emergency in any state.

“The Forum restates its solidarity with His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on the ordeal into which his state and people are being plunged by the declaration of a state of emergency.

“And we reiterate our commitment to stand with him till the end,” the governor added.
