Dementia is a mental disorder that typically affects aged people, although recent data has suggested that it could affect children as well.

Most dementia cases are linked to declining healthy living and low environmental-friendly lifestyle.

A recent research on the cognitive ailment due to be published on Wednesday, 31 July would reveal that it is easier for individuals to protect themselves from the disease.

According to the landmark report, about 14 lifestyle and environmental factors can reduce the risk of dementia because almost half of dementia cases are down to these factors.

However, neurologists have discovered that using the brain for abstract, high-level thinking throughout a lifetime could shield individuals from some aspects of dementia.

A discovery by the experts found that a ‘cognitive reserve’ may help people cut risks of dementia, particularly in the early stages.

Individuals can take their fate in their own hands by eating less, staying active, cutting intake of alcohol and cigarettes, exercising the brain and utilizing ‘brain training’ apps and programmes.
