Discovery: New research predicts 25 hours long Earth days

New research from Scientists have found that days in earth may get longer because the moon is gradually drifting away from our planet.

According to the research, as the moon moves further away, its changing gravitational impact on the Earth is slowing the planet’s rotation, resulting to longer days. Thus, Scientists have predicted that days on our planet could eventually become 25 hours long.“As the moon moves away, the Earth is like a spinning figure skater who slows down as they stretch their arms out.” geoscientist, Stephen Meyers explained. The moon sits about 238,000 miles from our planet, taking roughly 27.3 days to complete a single orbit around Earth. Meyers and his colleague indicated that from their research, a day on Earth lasted only about 18 hours, 1.4 billion years ago. They added that to get such calculation, they invented a statistical method that links astronomical theory with geological observation to look back on Earth’s geologic past, thereby reconstructing a deep history of the solar system. However, the Scientist noted that this change would take about 200 million years.Meanwhile, the moon’s gravitational pull is weaker simply because it’s farther away as the moon’s gravity is stronger.
