IMO: Impressed with the superlative performance of the 3-R Administration in the State, in the last three and half years, the Imo State House Of Assembly has formally adopted Governor Hope Uzodinma as the Sole Candidate in the November 11, 2023 Governorship Election.
Moving the Motion, the Member Representing Onuimo State Constituency, Hon Chief James Uba Esile explained that His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma has surpassed all expectation of Imo people, in terms of Procedural And Administrative Leadership, Quality And Durable Projects, Vis-a-vis Road Projects and Building Projects, amongst others.
Hon Chief James Uba Esile, while giving reasons why Governor Hope Uzodimma should be adopted by the Legislative Arm Of Government as the Sole Candidate in the November 11, 2023 Governorship Election went further to mention some quality and durable roads and building projects, including furnishing and equipping the State Secretariat with modern facilities, thereby breathing Fresh Air in the State Civil Service, for optimum service delivery.
The Motion, which was Co-sponsored by Hon Ikenna Ihezuo, Hon Bernard Ozoemenam and Hon Engr Innocent Ikechukwu Ikpamezie, was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader and Member Representing Okigwe State Constituency, Rt Honourable Chief Samuel Chidiebere Ogbunikpa and was equally supported by Honourable Members, including Minority members.
According to Hon Chief James Uba Esile, “We all know the condition of our roads. The very poor condition of these roads made life to be unbearable before the coming of Senator Hope Uzodimma in January 2020, as our governor”.
Overjoyed by Governor Hope Uzodimma’s road revolution, Hon Chief James Uba Esile noted thus, “Governor Hope Uzodimma is connecting the whole State through quality road projects”.
“Most of our markets were not not accessible, due to bad roads. Also, our farmers were finding it difficult to transport farm produce from the village farms to the city markets, due to the poor condition of our roads. As a result, there was food scarcity in the state, and costly too. Today, Governor Hope Uzodimma has brought back our roads, through quality reconstruction. A journey of about 5 hours, from Owerri to Okigwe, due to bad roads, now take us less than 1 hour. Owerri – Okigwe road has been solidly reconstructed, including the infamous EKEMELE junction that was impassable for many years. Hope Uzodimma came and restored Hope and Confidence on that road. Today, UZO ADI GO NMA”.
” The same quality constructed roads are visible and felt in Owerri/Orlu Road, Owerri/Mbaise road, Orlu/Ideato road, MCC road, Relief Market Road, Ihechiowa Road and many other multiple roads”.
Further overjoyed by the Governor’s performance, Hon Chief James Uba Esile declared, “What of here in this Hallowed Chamber of the Imo State House Of Assembly. This Complex was so dilapidated that the 7th Assembly, 8th Assembly And 9th Assembly partly and indeed, partially, operated from make shift arrangements elsewhere. This became an embarrassment to the Legislative Arm Of Government, and a laughing stock to the Imo State Government. But Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, a foremost National lawmaker, came and restored Hope and Confidence by rebuilding, furnishing and equipping the complex. We now have a brand new Assembly complex. Honourable Members can now make laws that will benefit Imo citizens”.
“What of the Imo International Conference Centre, IICC, that is currently being rebuilt, after it collapsed, due to poor job?”
“What of the Ekeukwu Owerri Market that was demolished by the previous government in September 2017? Governor Hope Uzodimma is rebuilding it”.
“The State Civil Service has completely undergone transformation, both in renovation and equipped for optimum service delivery. Thanks to Governor Hope Uzodimma who started the payment of 13 month salary for all Civil Servants”.
“What of the recovered State University, K O Mbadiwe University, which a former governor diverted and claimed he owned 90% shares? What of the Imo Orient News/IBC Quarters In Orji and numerous thousands of plots of land recovered from the past leadership in the State?”
He further noted that the State Governor has tackled and controlled flood menace in the State capital, Owerri, through the construction of balloon technology project initiative.
“With the Plethora Of Endorsement and Adoption of Governor Hope Uzodimma, due to his exemplary leadership, the Imo State House Of Assembly and Honourable Members who are beneficiaries of this purposeful leadership, cannot be left out”. Uba Esile submitted.
The Member Representing Onuimo State Constituency thereafter requested and called on his Honourable distinguished colleagues to formally adopt Governor Hope Uzodimma as the Sole Candidate for the November 11, 2023 Governorship Election.
In supporting the Motion, Honourable Members, including Minority members, spoke unbiasedly on how His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma has transformed the State, through quality, selfless and patriotic commitment and desire to make Imo a better place, describing him as a Real Man with enormous capacity to confront challenges and manage crisis.
For example, the Deputy Speaker, Rt Honourable Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu applauded and commended the mover of the Motion, describing it as a great work done. Rt Honourable Amara Iwuanyanwu further said that since Governor Hope Uzodimma has shown enormous capacity by touching every strata of leadership in the State, through visible dividends and verifiable achievements, he deserved being reelected come November 11, 2023.
For Hon Chief Barrister Sam Osuji , Member Representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency, “He who has done well deserves a good reward”. He described Governor Hope Uzodimma as a prepared leader who came with a blueprint to transform the State, and having demonstrated his capacity by transforming the State, he should be adopted and supported for reelection. Hon Sam Osuji further noted that the Governor’s record as an Experienced lawmaker at the National Assembly still speaks volume. He noted that travelling from Owerri to his Constituency, Isiala Mbano, was a nightmare, due to the very poor and dilapidated condition of the roads, but Governor Hope Uzodimma came and cleaned their tears, worries and nightmares, with quality and durable roads. Going biblically, Hon Chief Sam Osuji noted that since one does not return good with evil, that His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma deserve to be reelected.
For Hon Engr Innocent Ikechukwu Ikpamezie , Member Representing Mbaitoli State Constituency, he noted the quality and weight of capacity being exhibited by the Governor and how leaders across the State, South East and Nationwide have been applauding his commendable exploits and achievements, despite all the turbulences and challenges, such as politically sponsored instability, coronavirus epidemic, unknown gun men menace, etc.
For Hon Barrister Sir Chisom Ojukwu (Oyinatumba), Member Representing Nkwerre State Constituency, he explained that “we will be doing southeast a disservice if we do not bring Governor Hope Uzodimma back. Just last week, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma was in Lagos to plead for the course of Ndigbo. As an interventionist, he has provided the needed leadership by securing lives and properties of Ndigbo in Lagos. He organized southeast leaders in Abuja, to discuss the way forward, all geared towards connecting the zone to the National grid, having successfully connected Imo State”.
For Hon Kelechi Ofurum , Member Representing Owerri North State Constituency, “Owerri North has benefitted more than every other local government area in the State. All the connecting roads in the State pass through Owerri North. We are very grateful to the governor, and we will demonstrate this gratitude in November 2023.
The Minority members were not left out. The Minority Leader and Member Representing Isu State Constituency, Hon Modestus Osakwe declared, “Eyes can see what Governor Hope Uzodimma has done for the people of Imo State. If Honourable Members from Okigwe and Owerri zones could support the the re-election of the Governor, who am I (from Orlu zone) to throw him away? I support the Motion”.

When the Speaker, Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe put the Motion to vote, it was unanimously endorsed. Thereafter, Mr Speaker Ruled as follows, “Be it resolved that this Honourable House formally Adopt His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma as the Sole Candidate for the November 11, 2023 Governorship Election “.
And “Be it further resolved that Honourable Members be mandated to galvanize support for His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma across the 27 State Constituencies, through grassroots mobilization and campaign, for the re-election of Governor Hope Uzodimma “.
Earlier, In a resolute display of concern over the outbreak of Diphtheria, an air borne disease, the Imo State House Of Assembly has endorsed a Door-to Door strategic sensitization and enlightenment exercise to create awareness, especially for those living in the rural areas, so as to prevent and eradicate the scourge of the disease in the State.
Moving the Motion, Hon Dr Henry Agbasonu, Member Representing Ezinihitte Mbaise State Constituency explained that there is an outbreak of Diphtheria in the country, and has so far affected about 21 out 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory. He further explained that Diphtheria, as a highly contagious and vaccine preventable bacterial infection, caused by Coryine Bacterium Diphtheria, is transmitted through close contact with infected persons via respiratory secretions like coughing, sneezing or talking etc.
The Motion was seconded by Hon Kelechi Ofurum, Member Representing Owerri North State Constituency.
Hon Dr Henry Agbasonu further noted that Diphtheria releases toxin that harms human organs, which potentially can lead to severe consequences, including death, but which primarily affects the nose, throat and airways, thereby causing breathing difficulties, high fever etc.
Sounding a note of warning and alarm, the Ezinihitte Mbaise lawmaker stated that as at March 3, 2023, the Nigeria Center For Disease Control, NCDC, had recorded a total number of 733 reported cases of the contagious disease across the federation and about 89 deaths, with children between the ages of 5 & 18 mostly affected.
Therefore, in a bid to put in place adequate measures to checkmate further spread of Diphtheria, including, putting in measures for prevention, such as vaccination, measures for early detection, treatment, reducing fatalities, and to avoid crisis situation, Hon Dr Henry Agbasonu urged his Honourable Colleagues to support the Motion in urging His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma to direct the Honourable Commissioner for Health, and other related Health Agencies, to embark on massive sensitization and enlightenment exercise to create awareness about the outbreak of the disease, especially, in rural areas of the State.
Supporting the Motion, Hon Ugochukwu Augustine Obodo, Member Representing Owerri Municipal State Constituency called for an aggressive sensitization programme that would put Imo citizens on alert about the disease, noting that prevention, through sensitization and enlightenment exercise, would be a more effective way of preventing its spread.
The Chief Whip and Member Representing Oru-east State Constituency, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri, while supporting the Motion noted that Diphtheria is a contagious disease that kills, especially, children. According to him, the symptoms comes with high fever , but can be taken care of by taking Antibiotics. Hon Chigozie Nwaneri, who himself trained as a Nurse, further said that “children go to school and interact with other children from different backgrounds and environment. There is therefore urgent need to sensitize the public about Diphtheria disease”.
For Hon Okechukwu Ernest Udeze, Member Representing Ideato North State Constituency, he reiterated that creating awareness and sensitization would go a long way in the fight against the disease.
Hon Barrister Sir Chisom Ojukwu (Oyinatumba), Member Representing Nkwerre State Constituency supported the Motion and called for immediate spreading of the information in rural areas of the State, in a bid to alert the rural dwellers about the disease.
When Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe, Speaker IMHA put the Motion to vote, it was unanimously adopted.
