Media Relations Consultant, Chief Dr. Fidel Onyeneke has commended the Nigeria Police for setting-up a Special Squad for the protection of the various institutions of learning.
Chief Onyeneke in a statement in Owerri on Monday said that the action would drastically minimize cases of kidnapping, Cultism and other nefarious activities which had retarded academic programs in the Institutions.
Chief Onyeneke regretted that social vices and other forms of harassment had contributed to the decline in school enrollment,as witnessed in some states of the Federation.
He appealed to the Police Command to ensure that the officers deployed to the schools are effectively monitored as they perform their duties with integrity and in accordance to the ethics of the profession.
Chief Onyeneke advised the managements of the various Institutions of learning,to organize seminars for the students and Staffers, in order to prepare them to work in harmony with the security operatives.
The former Special Adviser to the Governor also urged the private Security men of the schools and the Vigilante groups of the Communities,to cooperate with the Police personnel to enhance the safety of the Institutions.
He observed with dismay,that the fear of insecurity had discouraged the youths from acquiring education thereby potending danger for the development of the Society.
Chief Onyeneke also regretted the high rate of moral decadence in the schools, and suggested stiffer disciplinary measures to check the situation.
He hailed the efforts by the Imo State government to improve on the infrastructural facilities in the schools with a view to providing a conducive atmosphere for learning.
Chief Onyeneke urged the major stakeholders in the education sector to map out strategies that would accelerate the fencing of primary and post-primary schools in the state.
The Media Expert reiterated that the task of protecting the academic institutions is the the joint responsibility of the government and the masses.
