Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has approved the establishment of the State Lottery Regulatory Commission
This is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor, on Tuesday in Benin.
Ikhilor said the commission’s primary objective is to provide a legal and institutional framework for regulating lottery and gaming operations in the state.
He also said it would ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity in lottery activities, safeguard participants’ and the public’s interests by enforcing fair play and responsible gaming standards.
Ikhilor added that the commission would also generate revenue for the state through licensing and regulation of gaming operators.
The SSG said the governor also approved the appointment of Mr Frank Okiye as Chairman of the commission, Habibat Yakubu as Secretary, and Dandy Imoukhuede Oserei, Elvis Uadiale, and Ndidi Aghimien as members.
He said the names of the nominees would be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation.
